Carta: The Love Letter Shoe
Mitzi says:
I’d like to tell you a bit about Carta. And for me to tell you about Carta, I have to tell you about the love letter. And for me to tell you about the love letter, I have to tell you about Maya. My daughter, Maya, is a constant inspiration to me and I wanted to express this to her in a real old fashioned love letter. And so I wrote this, something that I hope speaks to the hearts of all mothers with daughters, a letter of celebration, of love, of admiration for the girl she is and the woman she will become. I wanted to pass it along to you so we printed it on fabric and lined the bottom of the lovely Carta shoe with it.
A Love Letter to My Daughter:
My darling Maya,
I had another moment of wonder yesterday as I watched you, composed and focused, practice the piano for your first recital. Practical and pretty in your leggings (for handstands, of course!) and Mexican print dress, your hair in a crooked part with two lopsided pigtails and your fantastic floral headband, you were so very perfect. Your strength and beauty takes my breath away and I feel a deep gratefulness that you, my feathers-for-earrings, mismatched sock wearing, kind, wise and generous girl, are mine.
I want you to know that although I have complete faith in you and trust you will blossom and shine, I am here, always, watching, supporting and celebrating you, right by your side.
In all these moments of me watching you, and sometimes you with your wise eyes trained on me as I go about my day, I can see the woman you will become and I am honored to be your guide in life, sweet Maya.
Yours Forever,
Mamá
